Sad loss of our friend and colleague, Tony Walker

Sad loss of our friend and colleague, Tony Walker

It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the death of our longstanding and well respected colleague, Tony Walker, after a very brave and valiant battle against illness.
Tony joined Marwood in 1994 as our Warehouse and Distribution Manager and over his many years of loyal and dedicated service at Marwood became well known to many of our customers and suppliers. Tony was dedicated to his job running Marwood’s distribution operation efficiently and effectively and with a great sense of pride in what he did. We were delighted this was acknowledged and reflected externally in 2009 when Tony was awarded the HEA Employee of the Year Award. Tony was very honoured to receive the award and it gave him additional recognition that he so rightly deserved.
When Lumicom approached Marwood to become involved in providing a logistics solution for the collection of waste luminaires, Tony was at the forefront of Marwood’s proposal. This included specifying the type of vehicle required to ensure that it met all the necessary criteria as well as working closely with our IT partner to develop a system which could accurately register the amount of WEEE being collected from each depot. This was then fed live to Lumicom for onward registration with the Environment Agency. The result has been a successful partnership between Marwood and Lumicom spanning many years, something Tony played a pivotal role in and was extremely proud of.
Tony was instrumental in developing many of the systems and practices that are in operation at Marwood today. Such projects included being involved in the layout, design and project work for our Bulk Storage Warehouse which opened in 2000; ensuring that our fleet of distribution vehicles always had the most environmentally friendly engines installed in them, and overseeing the installation of tail lifts on our fleet in more recent times. Whatever project he was involved with, Tony was always proactive and forward thinking, and this will be his legacy and the mark that he will leave on Marwood. At the time of becoming ill, he was working with the business on succession planning for his retirement to ensure a smooth handover to his successor when the time eventually came for Tony to retire.
Tony will be greatly missed by his many friends both at Marwood and throughout our Industry, and our thoughts are with his wife and family at this very sad time.
