Marwood believes that businesses are responsible for achieving good environmental practices and operating in a sustainable manner.

Marwood is committed to reducing our impact on the environment and strives to continually improve its environmental performance as a fundamental part of our business strategy and operating methods. Indeed, it has been a year-on-year objective of the company to reduce our carbon footprint, seek and implement new and innovative ways to improve our energy efficiency and to reduce or recycle waste whether it be produced by us, our suppliers, or our customers.

The company has in place and is fully committed to maintaining ISO14001:2015, an international standard which sets out the requirements, formulation, and maintenance of our Environmental Management System.

We are committed to minimising the impact of our operations on the environment and achieving continual improvement in the conservation of energy resources, including transport efficiencies. The company recognises its responsibility for managing energy and fuel use and is committed to:

  • Increasing energy efficiency
  • Reducing energy consumption
  • Reducing consumption of fossil fuels
  • Reducing the amount of pollution particularly Co2
  • Investing in clean, energy-efficient sustainable technologies
  • Pro-actively promoting energy efficiency and striving to reduce significant environmental impact arising from energy, fuel and water consumption.

To demonstrate our commitment to these environmental objectives, Marwood installed a photovoltaic system at its Head Office in Kent together with a rainwater recycling system. Since installation the photovoltaic system has been generating more than 40,000 kwh of electricity per year, which amounts to a reduction of 9.24 tonnes of CO2, and just 50% of the energy created from this system powers the lighting across our whole site.

In order to ensure our lighting systems are as energy efficient as possible, we are delivering a rolling programme of improvements to the lighting at our Paddock Wood head office from 2020 - 2022. This programme is achieving a 52% energy saving on lighting systems, resulting in the business reducing it's carbon by over 50% per year on lighting alone (11.34 tonnes CO2 vs 23.72 tonnes CO2).

The company also ensures that its delivery vehicles meet the latest Euro engine specification and routes are planned in advance to minimise mileage and run time thereby limiting our logistics function impact on the environment.

WEEE Compliance

Marwood has worked with Lumicom on their WEEE Compliance Scheme set up to specifically serve the lighting industry. Lumicom offers a collection and recycling service for lighting manufacturers, installers, contractors and wholesalers, throughout the UK.

As the UK’s largest distributor of luminaires, we are committed to recycling and our company has been continually improving its recycling provision for over 20 years.

Marwood Electrical strives to minimise its waste, re-use and recycle as much as possible. To this end, we recycle all waste paper, cardboard, shrink wrap and scrap metal. As part of the services that we offer our customers, we seek to recycle customer waste; cardboard and shrink wrap back along the supply chain. We seek to reuse wooden pallets and crates multiple times to minimise wood waste. The company keeps and encourages staff to use battery and printer cartridge banks on site to ensure this waste is disposed of responsibly at end of life. The company continues to look for opportunities to use paperless administration where possible to further reduce our environmental impact.
