- Helping an International restaurant chain transform a neglected, derelict site into a new restaurant location
- Increased safety for the public when walking through or past the site
We were approached by street furniture installation and maintenance specialists, CS Mitchell, to find a car park lighting solution for a new restaurant location to be developed by an International restaurant chain. The site was formerly occupied by a public house in a central village location, but had become an eye-sore in the local area since the public house had gone out of business. The site was dark, derelict and potentially unsafe to the public.
The client wanted to use lanterns that were complimentary to the listed building they were redeveloping, and that the necessary lighting levels were provided from as few positions as possible.
The client required that the car park lighting provided an illuminance of 30 lux, but had not specified any details or requirements on the plan and layout of the lighting across the site. This gave our specialist lighting design team creative freedom to design a lighting layout for the entrance, drive-through and car park of the site, keeping in mind that the client wanted to keep the number of lighting positions to a minimum.
After assessing a number of options, our team selected Thorlux Juno lanterns - a product with modern styling that is attractive by day and efficient at night, with its forward-throw asymmetric optical design that projects light forwards.
The team created lighting design plans that were reviewed with both the contractor and client before sign-off, and coordinated with the product manufacturer to secure just-in-time delivery for quick installation.
The new car park lighting enables restaurant customers and passers-by to navigate the site safely during hours of darkness. The lighting design and products installed, along with the wider redevelopment, have transformed the site from a derelict, neglected eye-sore, into an attractive retail location for the local area. The optical product design of the Thorlux Juno lanterns ensure good light coverage across the site with zero upward light, reducing unnecessary light spillage outside of the site. The product also provides the restaurant client with excellent energy efficiency and low ongoing maintenance costs.
From the moment we received the brief from the client, we knew that we wanted to bring Marwood in to work with us on this project. Marwood completed the designs for the new external lighting and managed the procurement of materials ready for us to arrive on site for installation. Due to local media interest in the site development, we were glad to work in partnership with Marwood as our lighting specialists.
